في أوقات التحوّلات الكبرى، لا تُقاس المواقف السياسية بحدّتها، بل بقدرتها على حماية الدور ومنع الفراغ. ومن هذا المنطلق، تكتسب الدعوة الموجّهة إلى الأردن للانضمام إلى «مجلس السلام» بقيادة الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب أهمية تتجاوز بعدها الشكلي، لتلامس جوهر الدور الأردني في القضية الفلسطينية.
الجدل الذي رافق الإعلان عن المجلس مفهوم ومشروع، فالهواجس المرتبطة بطبيعته وانحيازاته المحتملة حاضرة بقوة في النقاش العام. إلا أن السياسة، خصوصًا في هذه المنطقة، لا تُدار بمنطق النوايا وحدها، بل بحسابات الحضور والغياب، ومن يملك القدرة على التأثير، ومن يُترك خارج دوائر القرار.
الأردن، بحكم الجغرافيا والتاريخ والتداخل العميق مع الملف الفلسطيني، لا يستطيع التعامل مع هذه الدعوة وكأنها شأن بعيد. ما يُناقش في هذه الاجتماعات، وأينما كان مقرّها، ينعكس مباشرة على الأمن الوطني الأردني، وعلى دوره الإقليمي، وعلى موقعه في معادلة شديدة الحساسية تتجاوز غزة إلى الضفة الغربية وما بعدها.
وكما لفت انتباهكم عبر أحد ضيوفي في الصحيفة اليوم، وهو قيادي وخبير في الشأن الفلسطيني، فإن الفلسطينيين، ولا سيما في قطاع غزة، ما زالوا يعوّلون على الأردن ويثقون بما ينقله من حقيقة ما يجري داخل هذه الاجتماعات، إدراكًا لدوره ومصداقيته، وحرصه التاريخي على عدم خذلان هذه الثقة. وهذه النقطة تحديدًا تُحمّل عمّان مسؤولية مضاعفة، إذ إن الغياب لا يعني فقط خسارة موقع سياسي، بل قد يُفسَّر أيضًا كغياب عن نقل الحقيقة، في لحظة يحتاج فيها الفلسطينيون إلى من يوصل صوتهم دون تزييف.
الانخراط الأردني المحتمل لا ينبغي أن يُقرأ بوصفه تفويضًا مفتوحًا أو قبولًا غير مشروط. على العكس، فإن المشاركة الواعية والمشروطة قد تشكّل أداة تأثير من الداخل، تُمكّن الأردن من الدفاع عن ثوابته، وفي مقدّمتها وحدة الأرض الفلسطينية، ورفض مشاريع التهجير أو الفصل، ومنع التعامل مع غزة كملف منفصل يُستخدم غطاءً لإعادة هندسة الضفة الغربية سياسيًا وأمنيًا.
التجربة الأردنية الطويلة في إدارة الملفات المعقّدة تؤكد أن السياسة في زمن الاضطراب لا تُدار من خارج الغرف المغلقة. كما أن القرار الأردني، بطبيعته، لن يكون فرديًا أو ارتجاليًا، بل سيُبنى ضمن شبكة علاقات عربية وفلسطينية ودولية، مع السعي إلى توفير غطاء عربي وإسلامي يخفف الكلفة السياسية، ويمنح أي خطوة بعدها الجماعي.
في الخلاصة، قد لا يكون «مجلس السلام» الإطار المثالي، لكن تجاهله لا يجعله يختفي. وبين الرفض المطلق الذي قد يقود إلى التهميش، والموافقة غير المشروطة التي تنطوي على مخاطر، يبرز خيار أكثر اتزانًا: الحضور المسؤول؛ حضور يحمي الدور الأردني، ويصون الثقة الفلسطينية، ويمنع تمرير ما لا يمكن القبول به، في مرحلة لا ترحم الغائبين عن طاولة القرار.
Between Trust and Responsibility… Why Jordan Cannot Afford Absence

In times of major transformation, political positions are not measured by how sharp they are, but by their ability to protect roles and prevent vacuums. From this standpoint, the invitation extended to Jordan to join the “Peace Council” led by U.S. President Donald Trump carries significance that goes beyond its formal dimension, touching the very core of Jordan’s role in the Palestinian cause.
The controversy surrounding the announcement of the council is understandable and legitimate. Concerns related to its nature and potential biases feature strongly in public debate. Yet politics—especially in this region—is not governed by intentions alone, but by calculations of presence and absence: who possesses the ability to influence, and who is left outside decision-making circles.
Jordan, by virtue of geography, history, and its deep entanglement with the Palestinian file, cannot treat this invitation as a distant matter. What is discussed in such meetings, wherever they are held, is directly reflected in Jordan’s national security, its regional role, and its position within a highly sensitive equation that goes beyond Gaza to the West Bank and beyond.
As one of my guests in the newspaper today—a leader and expert on Palestinian affairs—pointed out, Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip, continue to rely on Jordan and trust the accuracy of what it conveys about what truly takes place inside these meetings, aware of its role, credibility, and historical commitment not to betray that trust. This point, in particular, places an added responsibility on Amman: absence does not merely mean the loss of a political position, but may also be interpreted as an absence from conveying the truth, at a moment when Palestinians need someone to carry their voice without distortion.
Potential Jordanian engagement should not be read as an open mandate or unconditional acceptance. On the contrary, conscious and conditional participation could become a tool of influence from within, enabling Jordan to defend its principles—foremost among them the unity of Palestinian land, the rejection of displacement or partition projects, and preventing Gaza from being treated as a separate file used as a cover to politically and security-wise reengineer the West Bank.
